Profile Overhaul

It's well past time for me to rejuvenate my dating profile (not to mention actually use the app). Not prepared to lose that novel forever, so here's the dump...

*

I am creative, intelligent, and witty; however, my head is in the clouds half the time and there's not much of a filter between my thoughts and speech ... so some days I'm just an awkward asshole.
I have a corporate gig, but that's not what fuels my soul. Words, music, nature, and dogs are a few of my favorite things. I visit the library once or twice a week and always have more books checked out than I can read. I sing in a two-piece band and people clap at the end of our original songs so I think that's a good sign. I love hiking and camping but also enjoy exploring the cityscape. I'm currently working to find a balance between striving for improvement and accepting things as they come.
...writing, singing, PUNS, innuendo, making jokes on the fly (they fall flat sometimes too; don't let me tell you otherwise), subscribing to magazines and forgetting about them after three issues, humming, sleeping, coloring inside the lines, coloring outside the lines, using the Oxford comma, and composing ridiculously long series.
Books: The God of Small Things, Frankenstein (and many other British Romantics), S: A Novel about the Balkans, A Teaspoon of Land and Sea, George R.R. Martin, The Expanse series, Robert Jordan, The White Hotel … still feeling my way around non-fiction, though I veer toward psychology, linguistics, rhetoric, theory, literary/social criticisms. The library is my happy place and while I can be social I seriously need time with my nose in a book to feel solid...

Movies: Adult Emily compulsively watches Pride & Prejudice, The Paradise, Downton Abbey and other period dramas for the same reasons Adolescent Emily watched The Lion King and *NSYNC videos (they're captivating and make me feel funny). Other positive viewing experiences involved American Beauty, Hook, Mulan, Ben-Hur (1959), Coming to America, What about Bob?, Memento, Snatch, Anastasia, American History X, Stardust, and Office Space.

Shows: Battlestar Galactica, Scrubs, Doctor Who (I'm super behind), The IT Crowd, Star Trek: TNG & TOS, The Paradise, GoT, Breaking Bad, Snuff Box, Arrested Development...

Music: Nearly anything...every different mood and activity calls for its own playlist (thank goodness for unlimited data). That said, I suspect you'd prefer a few name-drops here: Jessie Ware, Aretha Franklin, Fitz and the Tantrums, The Weeknd, Them Crooked Vultures, Coheed, Usher, Justin Timberlake, Drake, Muse, Stevie Wonder, OutKast, James Blake, James Morrison, Led Zeppelin, Wolfmother, Amy Winehouse, Sam Cooke...

I like salsa, bachata, opera, broadway, bluegrass, trance, Motown, grunge … though sometimes specific artists and albums elude me.

Food: Again, nearly anything ... with plenty of culinary spices (and garlic). Sushi is taste, as are mashed potatoes with brown gravy (though probably not in the same meal). I love grilling out, though I'd prefer to handle the potato salad and dessert while you grill the meat and tons of vegetables. I love to make breakfast, chocolate-chip banana bread, buckeyes, stirfry, and burritos – and trying out new recipes.

BONUS FUN FACTS!

1. I like late-night comedy but never stay up late enough to partake.

2. I'm not against the idea of “Netflix and Chill” (eventually) but if the moving pictures are compelling enough I have been known to get sucked in at the expense of everything else.

3. H. Jon Benjamin has a van...not to mention a career in voice-acting.

4. Introduce me to new music and I just might swoon.

...chilling in bed or a hammock with a book, adult beverage, dogs, and/or bonfire or exploring a new part of the world and meeting new people -- it all depends on the heft of my wallet and the level of my stress leading up to the day.

Regardless, I'm always seeking and inspiring laughter.
